SANTA MARIA, CA (January 23, 2013) – Santa Barbara Business College will host a graduation ceremony for its winter class of 2013 on Friday, January 25, 2013. The ceremony will take place at the Santa Maria Fairpark’s Convention Center at 7:00 pm.
The graduating class consists of 59 graduates, which will receive career-oriented diplomas and associate’s degrees in the fields of business administration, criminal justice, medical assisting, paralegal studies, pharmacy technology, and medical office.
The class also includes the College’s first graduate of the Master of Business Administration degree program from the Online campus, Chris W. Excited for graduation and what her degree can do for her personal and professional life, Chris has been encouraging others to do the same.
“Going back to school to earn my degree was one of the best decisions I’ve made,” Chris says. “I’d been out of school for quite some time and have a full-time job, so it took some adjusting — but walking across the stage at graduation to receive my degree will make it all worthwhile. My husband and my children are very proud of me. If I can do it, so can you!”
As these graduates walk across the stage, it will signify the end of one journey and the beginning of another as they start their new careers. Several graduates have already found employment in their chosen fields, including the criminal justice and medical assisting fields.
Graduates of the criminal justice associate’s degree program, Anthony T. and Wendy R. work as a security officer at a local security company and an office clerk at a substance abuse treatment center, respectively. Similarly, medical assistant degree graduates Alleyne G. and Maria P. are now medical assistants at assisted living centers in Lompoc and Solvang, respectively.
With career-oriented training and job-readiness skills taught by the College, Maria P. was able to start a career in the medical field. “Through my education at SBBC I was able to get hired in the field that I studied,” Maria says, “I am enjoying my new job, and my education has taught me medical terminology which has been helpful with my new job as a medical assistant.”
Chelette Velasquez of the Santa Maria Public Defender’s Office will honor the graduates with a keynote address.
