With his first term at SBBCollege complete, meet criminal justice student Jimmy Vasquez.
Jimmy took a minute with us to talk about how his first term has gone at SBBCollege. We’re really excited to have him in the criminal justice associate of science degree program. A new student to SBBC, he’s already in the honors track.
What made you decide to go back to school?
The lack of work in the field I was in for the last ten years is what started it. I was a marble setter in high-end homes. The business died. I started carpet cleaning, but it still hasn’t been consistent. I decided to build a career in a field where there’s always a need: criminal justice.
What do you hope to do with your criminal justice degree?
Establish a career in some sort of law enforcement capacity. I might go into the academy or sheriff’s department. I like having a different job and traveling everyday, so law enforcement fits my like for moving and being out and about. How did you like your first term?
It got better towards the end, now that I’m getting into the groove of things. I was worried about fitting in and being able to do all the work well, but now I’m getting it.
What do you think are some of the benefits of being at SBBCollege?
The schedule is pretty good – I don’t have too many classes at once, so that’s nice. I have three classes and it doesn’t feel too overwhelming. I also like the financial aid assistance. That helps a lot.
How do you like the teachers?
[Instructor] Paul Bucy has been a big help, and he’s got a great personality. He’s encouraging, he reminds me that I’m going to be able to do it.
Are you looking forward to next term?
Yes!..I’m ready. I do need more computer practice, but I’m excited to get into the core of the criminal justice program.
Well, good luck Jimmy. We’re happy you’re here.
