International students hone english skills

40 international students are to graduate this Friday July 26th from a three week intensive English Language and American Culture Program in preparation for college next year.

The English Explorer program at SBBCollege Santa Barbara gives international students the opportunity to refresh their language skills ahead of the oncoming semester. As part of the course, the college also takes the students to American legacies, such as Disneyland and Universal Studios, to give them a better understanding of American culture.

Cláudia Wilroy, Chief Operations Officer at SBBCollege Santa Barbara, says: ‘The English Explorer program is highly popular with our international students who find it highly beneficial when moving to the area. We’re proud that students from all over the world choose to study at SBBCollege and we have a responsibility to ensure that these students are given the support they need to learn and grow.’

This year the college launched an Explorer Criminal Justice program, running alongside the English Explorer classes, which covers aspects of the US criminal justice system. Additional activities include jail tours, mock trials and crime scene demonstrations.

Both programs, which come at a time when the college is celebrating its 125th anniversary, are a nod towards the future of college education.

Cláudia Wilroy continues: ‘We now live in a world which, through the advances in technology and social networking, heavily relies on international integration. Our main goal at SBBCollege is to prepare our students for success in the future so creating a learning environment which is culturally diverse is a huge benefit to everyone.’
