Wanting to give back to their community, Santa Barbara Business College invited the United Blood Services to their Santa Maria campus for two community blood drives this summer.

Held on June 30th and August 4th, students, staff, faculty and the public were invited to participate in the blood drives. To raise awareness of the drive and to get everyone into the spirits of things, local radio station 95.7 The Beat also participated with a live remote on-site.

The blood drive proved to be a successful partnership between the College and United Blood Services. Many SBBCollege students were more than willing to donate, and saw it as a great opportunity to give back to their community.

The College’s medical assisting students in particular deal with needles and blood draws on a daily basis – as they prepare for their careers as medical assistants by practicing on each other – and readily allowed United Blood Services phlebotomists to draw their blood.

“SBBCollege students are great. They like to stick each other all day. They know what’s involved in the process, and are willing to donate,” said United Blood Services recruiter Chris P.

SBBCollege Santa Maria continues to look for ways to participate in and give back to their community, and looks forward to hosting more blood drives in the future.

The College is currently accepting applications for enrollment in their medical assisting program, as well as their recently added bachelor’s degree programs in business administration, criminal justice, and healthcare administration.
